In today’s economy if you don’t have a big pile of cash you’d better have great credit. Now is the time to buy cheap stuff. Most people can not pay cash so if you want to take advantage of the great opportunities you better check your credit and get it fixed if it is not a 740 score or better.

Suze Orman recommends monitoring your credit on a regular basis. Suze is really big on paying off your debts and living the free and clear lifestyle.

The first step to attacking those debts is to get your free annual credit report.

Next look at all of your outstanding unsecured debts. Set a monthly budget for these debts.

Then add up all of the minimum payments. Make just the minimum payments on all cards then take the leftover money in your unsecured credit card budget and apply it to the account with the lowest balance. Once you have the lowest balance account paid move to the next lowest balance and pay it off.

Don’t put it off get your free credit report with scores and see how many points your score goes up when you payoff but do not close those unsecured credit card accounts.

Annual Credit Report .com Review

September 23rd, 2008 by

I tried annualcreditreport.com since it was set up by our government and the three credit bureaus to provide totally free with no strings attached free credit reports. Filling out the initial information was easy and then you hit submit and check which of the three credit bureaus you want or all of them. I checked all three. Then I hit submit. Now I expected to get all three reports merged into one. Not so fast remember this was set up by our government and private businesses. Who do you thing got the better deal? Even though you check that you want all three reports you are now taken to each site one at a time. I was first taken to the Experian website. I had to answer a few security questions about some past accounts. Then Experian tired to sell me my credit scores which would have been useful buy there is no way I am going to pay $5.95 for only one credit score that should bee free. There were several offers on the page trying to sell credit monitoring and all kinds of other stuff and it was all way over priced. Once I finally got my Experian credit report I clicked the button to return to annualcreditreport.com to get my other two free credit reports and it said that my session had expired. Then I had to enter the information all over again and go through the same processes to get the Exqifax credit report. Equifax wanted even more for the credit scores $7.95. I also had to make sure that I did not accidentally check yes to Econsumer.equifax.com many offers for expensive products the were trying to push on me. I was able to get back to the annualcreditreport.com site without getting timed out this time. I went through the same process again to get my Transunion credit report. They made me pass through several offers to buy my score for $7.95 and other expensive offers. Once I got my report I was taken to a page to get free desktop software to get notified of changes to my credit report free. Wow this looked interesting. Then I investigated and could not believe what I saw transunion.com was trying to get me to download their SPYWARE / ADWARE to serve ads and offers along with my credit information. What a disappointment. Our government is telling us that annualcreditreport.com is the only place to get a free credit report, but the average consumer has to jump through almost endless hoops and get tricked into paying for credit scores that should be free. Then the credit bureau tries to put spyware / adware on your computer. I wonder who got paid off in setting up this sweet deal for Equifax, Transunion, and Experian. They get all kinds of free advertising and we get the bait and switch when it comes to getting our free credit reports which is almost useless without the credit scores. In my opinion the annualcreditreport.com site is just a way for the three credit bureaus to try and sell their services to you and they are getting all kinds of free hype to get you there. While you do not need to put any credit card information in to get the most basic free report and if your careful not to download any of their software you’ll get what you pay for. I think you are much better off getting a free credit report that you can actually use and that has good value. You do have to put in your credit card info. However you are not charged anything for a full thirty days and you have 60 days to review, investigate and dispute items on your report. They make it easy to cancel within the first thirty days and you are charged nothing. This is the absolute best way to get your free credit report in my opinion. Even if you forget to cancel within thirty days it is only $12.95 per month and you can cancel anytime. You get better services for way less than half of what it would cost you on Experian, Equifax, Transunion, or annual credit report .com. The most important thing is that you get your credit scores free and this will give you a complete picture of where you stand credit wise.

Correct Credit Report Errors Online at investigate.equifax.com

Respond

I work with clients and their credit every day. Most customers credit reports have errors that if corrected would automatically increase their credit scores almost instantly.

The most common error that could improve your credit score by 20 to 80+ points is incorrect credit limits reported by credit card companies to the three credit bureaus Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian . It is rumored that Capital One used to intentionally do this to keep their customers from getting better credit card offers from other companies.

If you know there are errors on your credit report you can dispute them online for your Equifax credit report at investigate.equifax.com after you get your free credit report here.

How to Raise Credit Scores

May 20th, 2008 by
Respond

Many loans, jobs, and housing today depend on a good credit score. There are several techniques that can be used to raise  a credit score.

  1. One of the major factors in a credit score is how much revolving credit card lines are used.  A person that carries a $500 balance and has $3000 limit will score higher than a person that owes $2500 on a credit card with a $3000 limit. The solution would be to call the credit card company and get the limit increased. This will make you seem less maxed out.
  2. The ideal amount of credit cards or revolving credit lines is between two and four. Having more accounts than that can pull the score down. You can be penalized for having more than five revolving accounts. This is why when someone gets a debt consolidation loan the credit score increases. You can fix this by transferring balances to and consolidating accounts. Tip: Do not close old accounts with a long positive history.
  3. Credit Inquiries can pull down a credit score between 8-10 points per inquiry. Don’t let companies check your credit unnecessarily.  A free credit report requested by the consumer does not count as an inquiry.  You can sign up for credit monitoring and not have to worry about it affecting your score.
  4. Any type of late payments or defaults are the biggest factor in credit scoring. Avoid paying bills late.
